Cohesin molecules bind to DNA and cooperate the restructuring of chromatin to make DNA more accessible for transcription factors. They have been shown to be involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. Mutations in the cohesin complex include RAD21, STAG1, STAG2, SMC1A, and SMC3. These are strongly associated with NPM1 mutations but do not have a clear prognostic value in AML.
